Imran Suspects a 'Plot' Behind Constitutional Court Proposal

After attending court proceedings in the new Toshakhana case at Adiala Jail, Mr. Khan told reporters that the government is creating a new court because it is unhappy with the Supreme Court. He claimed that the proposed changes to the constitution are meant to extend his prison time and harm the country’s future.

Mr. Khan accused the government of trying to undermine the judiciary by keeping the current chief justice in place to hide election fraud. He believes that a fair investigation into the February 8 general election would reveal the government's wrongdoings.

He expressed support for judges and journalists, urging the public to defend their rights and protect the judiciary. He also claimed that the ruling coalition has used legal changes to protect their wealth and that some of these individuals have moved their money abroad.

Despite his criticism of the legal amendments—which have been reinstated by the Supreme Court—Mr. Khan's legal team is asking for his acquittal in a £190 million case based on the new law.

Mr. Khan also alleged that 4,000 Pakistani companies have been registered in Dubai over the past six months and that the current interior minister’s spouse owns $500 million in properties in the UAE.

In the Toshakhana case, Judge Shahrukh Arjumand, hearing the case in Adiala Jail, ordered the investigation officer to submit a report by the next hearing. The case will be heard again on September 23.

The Islamabad High Court has removed objections to Mr. Khan and his spouse's petition for an early decision on their bail in this case
